Funny Song

Kirsten's favorite song to sing this week is I Love to See the Temple. She sings it almost non stop. She just sang it for Jeremy at dinner and I realized that she had some of the words wrong. She starts out fine, but then she goes
"The Temple is a House of God, the Palace of Sleeping Beauty!"
She never gets boring!

Trip to California

I had the most fabulous time in California this past week. I flew out on Wednesday to Orange County. My sister Jenny picked me up and we spent the next two days together. First we went to her boyfriend, Christian's house. Let me tell you, it was amazing. I think that someone should have been following me around to mop up my drool from his travertine floors! Then we met Aunt Marilyn for dinner and spent the rest of the night shopping. Thursday we went to Disneyland. We spent about 6 hours there until the lines started getting too long for our taste.
After Disney land we went to go see our cousin Marguax and her 5 day old baby, Garret. He is such a cutie. He christened me when I was holding him. I guess that means he likes me. Her 5 year old Gavin is also a complete doll. We spent the rest of the day at the beach. Jenny took me to Salt Creek Beach so that we could get a workout walking down and back up a mile long stair case down the side of the cliff to get to the beach. I am sure glad I have been working out lately, or that would have been the end of me!
Friday morning I flew from Orange County to Oakland. My best friend Christie Welch married her high school sweetheart, Chris McCrindle, in the Oakland temple on Friday. I started crying when I saw her in the parking lot and it just got worse from there. I am so happy for her. I am so grateful that I was able to be there with her. The reception was in Napa that night, which is where she lives now. At first I was devastated to have her so far away, but now I am just glad that I have an excuse to go back and visit. It is so beautiful out there.
I stayed Friday and Saturday night with Trish, a good friend of my sister Anne, and mine now too. We spent all day Saturday in San Francisco. We rode the subway in, which by the way goes underneath the bay! We then took the wrong trolley car and quite by accident ended up on the scenic trolley tour of San Francisco. Talk about good luck. We spent most of the day at Fisherman's wharf and saw the seals, Alcatraz, and ate at the Boudin Sourdough Factory. YUMMY!
That evening we drove back into San Francisco to hit the places you cannot get to with public transportation. We found Alamo Square, which is the row of famous houses you see on Full House and any other movie filmed in San Francisco. I actually thought that is what all the houses there would look like, but it turns out it is a street of six very famous homes.
To top off the day, we drove across the Golden Gate bridge, which was completely covered in fog. We parked on the other side and decided to go back and walk the bridge. It was crazy cold, especially for the middle of August.
I flew home on Sunday and came back to reality. It was fun to be gone but I sure missed Jeremy and Kirsten. She has been acting up and pushing every boundary I have ever set for her the past two days. I figure that she is punishing me for leaving her for so long. I hope to make it back out there again soon and take the family with me. It sure was a great week!

A three-year old's explanations

Where Kacey has been the last two months....
Laura "Kacey is coming home from College today."
Kirsten "No mommy, she wasn't at college, actually. She went to Six Flags to get her costumes and they locked the doors so she couldn't get out. Now they opened them and she can come home."

On getting bigger
Laura "Kirsten, you sure are getting tall. When did you get so big?"
Kirsten "I'm not bigger, not yet. But someday I will get bigger and then I'll have the biggest bum in the whole world that I ever saw, just like yours, mommy!"

What????!!!!

Birthdays, Flowers and Bikes

So Kirsten is officially 3! We took her to Build-A-Bear on her birthday and she made a Snow White Bear. No surprise there! She insists that it is her baby and feeds it, takes it potty, and has to wrap it up in a blanket and put it to sleep in a box, since we don't have a cradle. Girls....

She also got a bike for her birthday from my mom. We thought she would need some help figuring it out since she would never even peddle on her little Fisher Price bike. She got right on it though and rode off. We have spent a minimum of 3 hours everyday for the past week outside riding her bike now. At least there are always neighbor kids out riding their bikes too and so I have other adults to talk with while she plays.

Today Jeremy came home from work with two long stem roses for Kirsten. She screamed in delight and then proceeded to make it very clear that they were her's and not mommy's. Jeremy brought me flowers a few weeks ago and she cried for two hours because they were not for her. I guess this makes up for it. Again, Girls.....

I am working on getting ready for school to start and making all of the final scheduling plans for trumpet and piano lessons this year. The new principal at my middle school changed the schedule all around, so of course it does not line up with Kirsten's preschool perfectly anymore. I should have known it was too good to be true. I did find a sister from our ward that moved into our neighborhood three weeks ago that runs an in-home daycare. She is going to watch Kirsten for me on the days when the schedule doesn't work out for her school. I am so grateful that Heavenly Father puts the people we need in our path at just the right time.

Jeremy has been super busy getting ready for the audit of our ward. He is spending almost all of his free time at the church with the other clerks making sure everything is perfect for this Sunday. We will be happy when this is past. He is doing fabulous at work and was actually asked this past week to be on the emergency preparedness team for his group. So now he has a nifty vest and helps run drills, makes sure everyone gets out ect... He is excited to have some responsibility in his group. More to come soon!

Kirsten's 3rd Birthday Party

Kirsten had her 3rd Birthday Party yesterday. The theme was Barbie Island Princess, which she chose herself. I figured that after 3 months of not changing her 2 year old mind, I would humor her. I made her cake, the grand finale of 4 weeks of cake decorating class! We had 8 three year old girls over, and one lone little boy. Most of the girls came dressed up in princess costumes. Kirsten had a ton of fun and sure was a "Princess for the Day." She will of course get to be a princess again tomorrow on her actual birthday. I can hardly believe that it has been three years since she was born. It still feels like yesterday, yet so much has happened and changed since then. I hope you enjoy the pictures.
