Yogurt and Valentines

Every two or three days Kirsten brings home a new guided reading book from school.  Last week she brought one home that was about making yogurt.  So we decided for fun, we would try it!

The book took us step by step through the process.  First, gather all your tools.
 Second, gather the ingredients.
Third cook the milk and powdered milk to boiling.
Fourth, cool to exactly 100 degrees, and add 2 Tbsp of plain yogurt.
Fifth, pour into a thermos and keep it warm at 100 degrees over night.
Sixth, in the morning, add sugar, blueberries, chill, and voila!  Our own homemade yogurt for breakfast!
I am so glad that her books are not always fictional stories, but incorporate biographies, science and cooking!

We also had a great Valentine's day this past week.  Jeremy and I did not go out, partly because I did not try soon enough to find a baby sitter, and partly because we are going out of town, just the two of us, this coming weekend.  So we are counting that as our Valentine's day date.    I was able to make a special dinner, despite it being a crazy Tuesday and teaching 14 lessons and Kirsten having her violin lesson.  I made twice baked potatoes, meatloaf, rolls, and broccoli, with chocolate covered strawberries for dessert.  It was yummy if I do say so myself!

We did get each of the girls a little something, Kirsten got Lady and the Tramp on DVD, and Katie got some Little People blocks, and each girl made their daddy a beautiful card.
These girls are getting more fun everyday and I am  glad that they love each other so much.  Sometimes, though, it may be a little too much.  About 15 minutes after bedtime on Thursday we heard giggling.  This is how we found them.
Kirsten said that Katie was having a hard time sleeping and so she decided to help.  I had to ask - do you really think that was helping?  Oh well.   At least they love each other and can make each other smile and laugh.
