Kirsten's Baptism

On Saturday August 24, 2013, Kirsten was baptized and confirmed a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

We have been looking forward to this day for a long time, but it was hard to imagine it ever actually being here.  We are so proud of our Kirsten and the beautiful young lady she is becoming.  She has developed a strong testimony of her Savior, Jesus Christ, and has a simple, pure faith in the gospel.

I am so thankful for a wonderful husband who honors his Priesthood and was able to baptized our sweet daughter.

Kirsten and her daddy
This summer when we were in Kansas, we found the dress that my mom made in 1984 and that my sisters and I were all three baptized in.  We were able to clean it up and Kirsten wore it for her baptism as well.

Kirsten was lucky enough to be the only baptism from our ward in August, so we were able to plan the entire service.  Grandma Alleman played the piano while Grandpa Lowe conducted the music.  Grandma Starnes said the opening prayer and then Grandma Lowe gave a beautiful talk on baptism.  Grandpa Alleman gave a talk on the Holy Ghost and had Kirsten come and stand next to him.  He spoke about they way the carve together and the planning, leading and following and how the Holy Ghost is similar in our lives.

Then it was time for her to actually be baptized.  She was baptized by her daddy and Uncle Zach and Uncle John served as witnesses.

After I helped her dry off and change, we headed back to the chapel.  Kirsten and I sang together "If the Savior Stood Beside Me".  It was her idea to sing and I am so glad that we did.  She has such a lovely voice and brought a sweet spirit into the meeting.  It was with that reverent spirit that she was confirmed a member of the church and received the Gift of the Holy Ghost along with a wonderful blessing from her father.  She was surrounded by her dad, Grandpa Lowe, Grandpa Alleman, Grandpa Starnes, Uncle John, Uncle Zach, Uncle Chris and Randy Goodwin.  It was amazing to see her surrounded by so many priesthood holders who love her so dearly.   She received a welcome from the primary president and bishop and then Aunt Anne said a closing prayer.

My heart was so full the entire day.  I was overwhelmed with the love and support from family and friends who came out to support my sweet little girl on this special day.

My mom and step dad came down from Kansas, my Grandma and Grandpa, Aunt Iva, Uncle Cole and Bryce came down from Oklahoma, my Uncle Billy and Angela and my cousin Marguax and her family from Houston.

My sister Anne flew in from Chicago and brought Marissa with her and my brother John came all the way from Hawaii with his girlfriend Shannon to be here for the weekend.
After the wonderful baptism service, we headed over to my in-law's house for a celebration lunch.  I made sweet pork, salad, and rolls and my mother-in-law made a great potato casserole.  Then we topped it off with a beautiful cake.
I made a video that celebrated Kirsten's life in pictures and had it running throughout the luncheon as well.  We also gave Kirsten her very own set of scriptures.  She was super excited!
Kirsten was very excited to go to church the next morning wearing the white dress that I made for her with the necklace from her Aunt Kacey.
It was a beautiful weekend full of family, friends, laughter, tears and joy.  I am so grateful for the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the guidance that it gives me as I try to raise these two beautiful Daughters of God.  This was a moment that we will treasure for all eternity.
